The Reserve at Lake Keowee Hosts the 34th Annual Junior Matches
GREENVILLE, SC - July 27, 2009 - On July 17 and 18, The Reserve at
Lake Keowee hosted the 34th Annual Junior Matches, a golf tournament between the top eight junior golfers in
South Carolina and the top eight junior golfers in
Georgia. After two days of play,
South Carolina defeated
Georgia with an overall score of 11.5 to 4.5, marking their 13th win in the history of The Matches, the longest running contest of its kind in the country. The format was singles matchplay with one point available per match.
"We are excited that The Reserve joins the list of fantastic facilities that have hosted this tournament over the years," said Happ Lathrop, executive director of the South Carolina Golf Association. "Players who have come through this tournament have gone on to win The Masters and the U.S. Open and it is a tribute to The Reserve to host this tournament."
South Carolina's team members included Adam Goins of Gaffney, Ben Fogler of
Columbia, Damon Postal of Blythewood, Stephen Behr of
Florence, Brannan Hudson of
Columbia, Tate Hoisington of Hilton Head, Cory Taylor of Greer and Caulder Moore of Isle of Palms. Playing for
Georgia were Henry Mabbett of
Griffin, Ty Howze of Hahira, Zach Hartman of
St.Simons Island, Gus Wagoner of
Duluth,Will Evans of McDonough, Jack Walsh of Lawrenceville, Scott Wolfes of
St. SimonsIsland and Michael Garretson of Acworth.
